The Bernice Cowen Memorial Fund

Bernice Cowen our wife, mummy, grandma, daughter, sister, Aunty and friend lost her extremely brave battle against colon cancer aged just 57. Our mum had a smile that would light up a room. Even in her darkest hours her smile would beam through her pain. Our journey began 8 years ago and after 3 operations, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and many invasive procedures and tests we were told there was nothing more they could do. Then we met Professor Justin Stebbing. Justin and his team offered us life when all other doors were closed. He gave us hope and options with his pioneering operations and treatment and for this we will be eternally grateful. Our mum's motto was life was for living not wasting and she probably achieved more in 57 years than most people would achieve in 100! Never once did she complain or hide herself away - she was brave and dignified. She was a beautiful, vivacious lady whose zest for life was never tainted by her illness.

We are organising a golf day in memory of her on September 24th 2012. We thought this is extremely appropriate as she was often found on the golf course with her chemotherapy drip in. We want the money raised to go to Action Against Cancer who support Justin's development of new tests to diagnose cancer earlier and drugs to treat it more effectively. We want to help to try and find a cure to all types of this cruel disease so no other family has to watch a loved one suffer as we did. Please give generously to help us make a difference.

Thank you.
