Father and daughter Olympic stadium team!

Five months ago I was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer which had spread to my liver and I was given only months to live. I was very fortunate to find Professor Stebbing, who gave me a commitment to substantially improve this prognosis, I am now on my 4th cycle of chemo and so far the results have been very positive.

I have always enjoyed running and previously have participated in three London marathons and more recently have run the Manchester 10km. My daughter and I decided to enter the Great Newham London 10km which finished with a lap around the Olympic Stadium. We decided that this offered a great opportunity to raise money for Action Against Cancer and to support Professor Stebbing and his team to continue their ground breaking research which gives hope to us and everyone fighting against cancer.

As part of my training for the run I spent time at Stoke Park Club. The venue hosts a Boodles tennis event every year pre-Wimbledon and after speaking with Hannah Adlam (the Events Manager) they also wanted to support my fund raising efforts and very kindly donated a tennis bag and racquet signed by Novak Djokovic and an Action Against Cancer t-shirt signed by Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. The items will be auctioned by the charity later this year.

On the 19th July, we completed the 10km run, where the weather was slightly hotter than forecast. However, I thoroughly enjoyed the event with my daughter and, had it not been for my illness, I am not sure we would have had the opportunity to run together. It was a special time for me and I savoured every minute, especially the lap around the Olympic Stadium. With the help of very generous friends and colleagues, together we managed to raise £4,000 for the charity.
